Waters and Mays Carry LSU to Double-Digit Win Over Georgia

Posted by clintdomingue on January 23, 2019 in Blogs, Latest News

This LSU (15-3, 5-0 SEC) team continues to be phenomenal in conference play with a 92-82 win over the Georgia Bulldogs (9-9, 1-5) thanks to a big offensive performance on Wednesday night.

How It Happened:

Both teams came out of the gates fast, but the Bulldogs controlled the opening moments of the ballgame with Jordan Harris leading the way to a 13-8 lead. LSU quickly responded from that point with a 14-0 run over the course of three minutes to take a commanding nine-point lead. The rest of the first half was very ho-hum, but another solid run by the Tigers in the final two minutes was enough for them to take a 48-36 lead at the half.

Georgia answered the bell to start the second half, cutting the deficit to six points in the opening two minutes, but the Tigers offense was able to right the ship and started to pull away with an 11-2 run to take a 65-48 lead with 13:07 left in regulation. The Bulldogs fought back, but the Tigers offense was just a little too much, coming away with a 10-point win and their 18th straight victory inside the friendly confines of the PMAC.

Big Number: 9

Skylar Mays didn’t need to do a whole lot offensively to be the second-highest scorer on Wednesday night. In fact, he only needed to shoot it nine times from the field to put up the bulk of his 20 points on the evening.

Player of the Game: Skylar Mays

I would love to give it to Tremont Waters because of the fact that he put up 26, but I have to say that Mays deserves the love for his all-around solid game with the aforementioned 20 points, three boards, two assists, and a steal. Even more impressive is him going eight-for-eight from the charity stripe.

Next Up: at Mizzou Saturday; Tipoff at 5 pm
