The LSU Tigers (13-9, 4-6 SEC) needed to bounce back after two straight 20-point losses in the last week. The key player was their star freshman Tremont Waters, who had been in a slump the last two games where he put up a combined 11 points.
Waters woke up in a big way on Saturday afternoon with a 27-point performance to help the Tigers take down Arkansas (15-8, 4-6 SEC) 94-86.
After a slow start, LSU started to get hot midway through the first and really began to take control with a 10-0 run to make it 28-16 with 5:58 left. The Razorbacks fought back late, but it wasn’t enough with the Tigers holding onto an eight-point lead at the break.
The second half for LSU was more of the same, getting out to a 13-point lead early on, but Arkansas started to fight back and brought it down to a four point deficit with 9:18 left in regulation. The Tigers were able to respond and put the game out of reach when Skylar Mays hit a jumper with 1:15 left to make it a 10-point ballgame.
The Tigers will hit the road on Wednesday when they take on the Florida Gators (15-8, 6-4 SEC) with tipoff set for 5:30 pm.
