Week four is officially in the books and while it ended on October 2nd, you can still say that we have gotten through the first month of the 2017 season. You had some big surprises and the Cleveland Browns continuing to keep the bar low.
There was also a lot that we learned after the first four weeks of the season. Here’s a few of the things we learned.
No Hangover for Atlanta
Looks like all those 28-3 memes during the offseason didn’t distract the Atlanta Falcons to start the season. They had some competitive games against teams like Chicago, but still started off the season 3-1. Put that side-by-side with some of the other teams that lost in the Super Bowl, it’s pretty good.
However, they’ve still got a tough schedule ahead of them with a trip to New England in three weeks and the entire NFC South on the docket. It’ll be interesting to see if they can keep that going as they head into the toughest part of their schedule.
Deshaun Watson Early Rookie of the Year
It really shouldn’t come as any surprise that a quarterback that beat Alabama for the national championship about 10 months ago is one of the best in the NFL. The real surprise is who he’s performed so well against. Putting up 300 yards and taking the New England Patriots to the limit is a pretty strong feat for a rookie. It’s even more amazing seeing what he did last week against Tennessee with five touchdowns in a decisive blowout.
It took 15 years, but the Houston Texans may have finally found their franchise quarterback.
The Chiefs Are Legit This Year
The Kansas City Chiefs have been a team that was missing one or two elements to really be taken seriously offensively. That weapon is Kareem Hunt. The rookie came out of nowhere on opening night and ran up and down the Patriots defense to hand the defending Super Bowl champs a decisive loss.
The lone unbeaten team in the NFL seems to be set up for the long haul and could be the AFC West champs barring injury.
The Greatest Show on Surf?
First off: When did Jared Goff become a serviceable quarterback in the NFL? What we’re seeing from this Los Angeles Rams team is incredible. This was a team that actually made a Thursday Night Football game way more entertaining than it needed to be and upset the Dallas Cowboys.
The crazy part is that the rest of their schedule is pretty easy with their next three games against Seattle, Jacksonville, and Arizona. If they can go 2-1 in that stretch before the bye, they have a chance to make a run in the playoffs this year.
