The winner of the 2019-20 NBA Rookie of the Year award was announced on Thursday.

Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant received 99 first-place votes out of the 100 possible votes to win Rookie of the Year. Morant was selected with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. He led the Grizzlies to a 34-39 overall record.

Miami Heat guard Kendrick Nunn, who went undrafted in 2018, finished second behind Morant. New Orleans Pelicans rookie Zion Williamson finished third in the voting, but did receive one first-place vote.

Morant led all rookies in points and assists per game. He averaged 17.8 points and 7.3 assists per game. Morant appeared in 67 games.

Nunn has played in 67 games for the Heat this season. He averaged 15.3 points on 43.9 percent from the field.

Williamson missed a majority of his rookie season due to a right meniscus injury. He did appear in 24 games, averaging 22.5 points and 6.2 rebounds per game.

Earlier this week, New Orleans forward Brandon Ingram was named the league’s Most Improved Player.
