The weather is finally starting to warm up (for now) and that can only mean one thing: college baseball is back! After an underwhelming end to the season last season, the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns are looking to improve from last season.
Without further ado, let’s get to the preview for the Cajuns season ahead!
Strong Pitching Staff
This pitching staff for the Cajuns is still good, even without Gunner Leger on the bump this season. When you’re able to have four solid starters in the rotation for a college baseball program is a big positive for this team.
The interesting part of all this is that the Cajuns will be trotting out Jack Burk for the first game against Texas. Burk is coming fresh off an injury, but has really caught the eye of the coaching staff with how he recovered and his performance during fall ball. While the Cajuns are front-loaded this season, there’s a lot of youth that will be in the pen this season like freshmen Brock Batty and Austin Perrin.
Heart of Lineup
When you look at the roster for the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns, there’s a lot of unknown when it comes to their offense. One of the key players for this team will undoubtedly be Handsome Monica. He improved as the season progressed, but with a lot of question marks on the offense he’ll be the heart and soul of the Cajuns lineup.
While there will be experienced players like Zach LaFleur out of LSU-E and Hunter Kasuls, the Cajuns lineup will look for a continued effort from their catcher not only at the dish, but at the plate.
Which Freshman Will Step Up?
The youth movement is real for the Cajuns with a ton of freshmen on the roster that could make an impact right out of the gate. That brings up a million dollar question: which one of these will step up and help this team during crunch time?
There are three players that many fans will point to: Hayden Cantrelle, Batty, and Perrin. The Teurlings product has been a solid player in high school and could have a solid shot at making waves this season in terms of the starting nine and getting runs on the board.
Overall Thoughts
This is going to be a fun year for the Cajuns with Russo Park finishing the renovations, meaning that fans of the program will get to fully enjoy the new amenities. The completion of Russo Park is also pretty beneficial for the Cajuns because they don’t have to worry about moving practice schedules around construction and they focus on getting things done on the field.
