Welcome everyone to the final #4Downs of the season!
1st Down: Forbath Comes Through In Clutch
The search for an answer to the Saints kicking problem may be over. Forbath came through in the clutch for the second time this season. The former Redskin went 9-of-14 after being signed by the Saints back in October. The shortest miss he had this season was a 38 yarder and one of his misses was a blocked field goal last week against the Jags. Forbath should stay on based off of his overall performance since being acquired.
2nd Down: Silver Lining to Season
The Saints have gone 7-9 for the second straight season and it seems like the sky is falling for the Crescent City’s team. But there is one silver lining for the fans. They went 3-0 against rivals Atlanta and Dallas this season. It may not seem like much on the surface, but those three wins are what you want as a Saints fan who hates Atlanta and Dallas.
3rd Down: Defense Never Gave Up
When the Falcons got the ball inside two minutes, it seemed that the Saints were going to lose another nailbiter against Atlanta. But on the first play of the drive, Jamarca Sanford intercepted Matt Ryan to get the Saints the ball within Forbath’s range. The Saints defense performed all season below expectations, but know how to perform when in the clutch. There’s still a lot of work to be done with this defense as they head into 2016, the first of which is to get rid of Brandon Browner.
4th Down: End of an Era?
One of the burning questions in this ongoing soap opera of the Saints 2015 season is if head coach Sean Payton will be leaving the Saints and if so, will Drew Brees be headed out with him. And apparently Payton is as tired as anyone of being asked questions based off his postgame presser where he deflected the question. If it truly is the end of an era, it was a fun ride. From the first year after Hurricane Katrina to the first Super Bowl win in franchise history, it was an great run for Payton and Brees. We should really be thankful because if what the rumor mill says happens, then it may be a LONG time before we get back to that level. It could be back to square one for this team. Look at what happened to the Dallas Cowboys after losing Troy Aikman, only making out of the first round of the playoffs twice since 2001. It’ll be hard to reach those heights after these two guys are no longer part of the team.
