LSU Holds On In Win Against Arkansas

Posted by clintdomingue on May 6, 2016 in Latest News

The LSU Tigers were able to hold on Friday night with a 5-4 win over the Arkansas Razorbacks (26-20, 7-15 SEC).

The Razorbacks got on the board right away in the top of the first when Bonfield grounded out to second base to get Eagan across home safely to get a 1-0 lead. But LSU was able to respond quickly when Kramer Robertson grounded out to shortstop and that allowed Antoine Duplantis to come across and that tied things up.

LSU took the lead in the bottom of the third when Jake Fraley scored off of a wild pitch. The Razorbacks tied it up in the top of the fifth with a single up the middle from Pennell that scored Alredge. The Razorbacks had the bases loaded with no outs after Eagan was hit by pitch. But the Tigers had the strangest triple play to get out of the jam knotted at two apiece.

The Tigers got three runs across in the bottom of the sixth, two of which were off of bases loaded walks. Fraley got the third across off a sac fly that allowed Bryce Jordan to score.

The Razorbacks began to mount a comeback in the top of the eighth with a leadoff solo shot from Eagan. Arledge capitalized on a wild pitch in the top of the ninth with two outs, but that was all they could muster and the Tigers were able to come away with the win.

Alex Lange improved to 6-3 on the year allowing three runs off of eight hits, walked one, and struck out six in seven and a third innings of work. Hunter Newman got his third save of the year allowing one run, no hits, walked three, and struck out two in one and two-thirds innings of work.

The Tigers (28-16, 11-10 SEC) will try to clench the series on Saturday with first pitch set for 6 pm.
