LSU Sweeps Doubleheader Against Notre Dame

Posted by clintdomingue on May 11, 2016 in Latest News

The LSU Tigers were originally scheduled to play two seven inning games, but wound up playing 18 innings on Wednedsay night, taking both games against Notre Dame (26-22).

In game one, both teams had issues getting points on the board, with no on escoring until Jake Fraley hit a solo shot to right field to start the 11th inning and that would wind up being the game winner.

Austin Bain improved to 4-0 on the year allowing one hit, walking two, and striking out one batter in two innings of relief work. Hunter Newman got his fourth save of the season allowing only one hit in his one inning of work.

The second game of the twinbill was  very similar with neither team being able to score. The only difference they were able to score in the final inning. LSU got on the board in the top of the seventh thanks to a two-run single from Bryce Jordan. Chris Reid was able to get a third run off of a wild pitch.

The Fighting Irish got on the board thanks to a bases loaded walk and a wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh, but the Tigers were able to hold on after striking out Ricky Sanchez.

Riley Smith got his first win of the year allowing four hits and fanning four batters in six innings of work. Jesse Stallings got the save with last strikeout in the game.

The Tigers (33-16) will now travel to Knoxville to take on Tennessee (26-23) with first pitch on Friday set for 5 pm.
