Louisiana Defense Thrives In Cold Weather to Become Bowl Eligible

Posted by clintdomingue on December 3, 2016 in Latest News

Cajuns

It was wet and wild on Saturday afternoon as the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns headed to Monroe to try and become bowl eligible for the fifth time in six years. The weather conditions turned out to be a benefit with the Warhawks committing five turnovers as the Cajuns would thump UL Monroe 30-3.

The Cajuns would go three and out to start the game, but Savion Brown would intercept Caleb Evans on the next play and that would turn into seven points with Eli McGuire rushing in for the sole offensive touchdown of the game and an early 7-0 lead. The Warhawks would respond on the next drive with a quick march down the field, but were stopped in the redzone and settled for a field goal from Craig Ford to cut away at the Cajuns lead.

The Cajuns defense continued to show up and get after the ball with Kevin Dotson forcing a fumble that would be recovered by Trev Miller for a73-yard touchdown to extend their lead.

A couple of drives later, Karmichael Dunbar forced a fumble and Otha Peters would run it in for the score to make it 21-3. This would be the third defensive touchdown by the Cajuns in two weeks. A field goal as time expired from Stevie Artigue to head into the locker room with a 24-3 lead.

The second half would not be as explosive with a pair of field goals from Artigue would be the only scores and both would be in the third quarter.

The Cajuns end their season at 6-6, which means they are bowl eligible. While not official, it seems that the Cajuns are destined for the New Orleans Bowl. The Cajuns will find out their bowl destination on Sunday morning.
