Louisiana Ragin Cajuns Fall Short Against Georgia Southern

Posted by clintdomingue on January 14, 2017 in Latest News

Cajuns

It’s not often the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (12-5, 2-2 SBC) get into the kind of foul trouble they were in on Saturday night. Even with that the Ragin Cajuns were able to keep it competitive and make Georgia Southern (11-6, 4-0 SBC) earn an 81-76 win.

The Cajuns started out slow, but were able to get out to an 11-4 lead with 16:04 remaining in the first half. The game would remain close for the rest of the first half until the Cajuns went on a 6-0 run in the final 3:10 to take a 36-30 lead into the locker room.

The Cajuns started out strong in the second half, but the Eagles continued to be a thorn in their side as the game progressed. Georgia Southern finally would take the lead for the first time since the start of the game with a layup from Mike Hughes. They would hold on the rest of the way, but the Cajuns would stay in it until the final 30 seconds.

The Cajuns will have to get over this in quick fashion when they take on Georgia State (9-7, 2-2 SBC) with tipoff set for 7 pm.

By the Numbers:

49: Number of personal fouls from both teams. It was really all about the battle behind the line with the Eagles shooting a solid 78 percent from the charity stripe. They also would shoot 15 more than the Ragin Cajuns.

50: Number of points inside the paint for the Ragin Cajuns. This was in large part because of the poor shooting from beyond the arc where they made only three shots on the night.

28: Number of points that Ike Smith had on the night. He also ended up with seven boards, and two assists.
