#3OT: Louisiana Ragin Cajuns vs Georgia State

Posted by clintdomingue on January 16, 2017 in Latest News

Welcome everyone to the latest edition of #3OT where I break down what went right and what went wrong for the Ragin Cajuns! Today, we look at their loss to Georgia State.

1st OT: Unable to Contain Emotions

If there’s one thing coming out of this game that was obvious, it is that these teams just do not like each other. Before the opening tip, there was a little skirmish between the two teams and that bled into the game as both teams would commit a total of 50 personal fouls. If the emotions were contained by the Cajuns, the Cajuns could have come away with the win.

2nd OT: Usual Suspects Ball Out

The Ragin Cajuns constantly have three players they can rely on to get things done offensively in Frank Bartley, Bryce Washington, and Johnathan Stove. Those are to be expected, but Jerekius Davis was a pleasant surprise for the Cajuns as he put up 15 points and eight boards. He had been limited to a few minutes here and there early on in conference play, but he was needed as Justin Miller got into foul trouble early and made every one of those 20 minutes count. Perhaps his workload could see an uptick going forward.

3rd OT: Defensive Struggle Was Real

While both teams would shoot the same amount of shots from the field, the efficiency of Georgia State was the big difference as they were able to get 36-of-58 to go into the net. It was an instance of the Cajuns defense struggling yet again. They only had two blocks and one steal on the night while the Panthers were able to get off some solid shots throughout the matchup as they were able to walk out of the Cajundome with the recognition of doing something that hadn’t been done since 1990: put up 100 points on the Cajuns home court. The defensive effort going forward will be a major point of emphasis the rest of the week as the games won’t be getting any easier.
