Louisiana Ragin Cajuns Take Down Little Rock

Posted by clintdomingue on January 28, 2017 in Latest News

Cajuns

It seems like a change was needed to the starting lineup for the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (14-7, 4-4 Sun Belt). Instead of starting Johnathan Stove, he decided to put freshman Jerekius Davis in for his first career start. It looks like it worked on Saturday night as they were able to get a much needed win over Little Rock (12-9, 3-5 SBC) to sweep the season series.

The game started out with an early back and forth between the two teams, but the Cajuns were able to take control with a 17-2 run over the course of six minutes to go up by as much as 20 points. Little Rock answered with a few points late in the half but the Cajuns were able to head into the locker room with a 45-25 lead.

The second half started fairly well but the Trojans weren’t about to allow the Cajuns to walk all over them like they did earlier in the month. They went on a 6-0 run to cut the lead back down to 18 points before the Cajuns caught fire, going 6-of-8 from the field midway through the first half.  The Trojans were able to keep it competitive until the final minutes but the Cajuns were able to hold on for an 88-82 win.

The Cajuns will stay at the Cajundome on Monday night as they host Arkansas State (15-6, 5-3 SBC) with tipoff set for 7 pm.

By the Numbers:

26: Number of points the Ragin Cajuns had off of turnovers. It looked to be a great defensive showing on Saturday as they were able to make the most of the Trojans 15 turnovers.

61: Cajuns field goal percentage in the winning effort. It was a great night shooting wise for the Cajuns, especially from deep as they shot 50 percent from beyond the arc.

14: Number of points that Little Rock got off of the fastbreak. While the Cajuns offensive efforts were great in terms of getting points off turnovers, they were unable to slow down the Trojans in that aspect of the game.
