Louisiana Ragin Cajuns Fall Short Against Georgia Southern

Posted by clintdomingue on February 6, 2017 in Latest News

Cajuns

The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (14-9, 4-6 SBC) were just seconds away from coming away with a much needed win over Georgia Southern (15-8, 8-2 SBC). However, the Eagles were able to come away with a 74-70 victory in the final minute of regulation.

The Eagles started out strong, getting out to a 10-3 lead with 15:12 left in the first half. Georgia Southern would get out to as much as a 14 point lead at the halfway mark and looked to be in control with two minutes left in the first half. However, the Cajuns would end the half with all the momentum thanks to a 15-2 run to cut the lead down to two points.

The second half started out with the Cajuns taking the lead for the first time in the game off of a three-pointer from Jay Wright. The Cajuns got out to as much as a seven point lead, but Georgia Southern was able to hang around into the final minutes. It was a back and forth final minutes that saw the Eagles get back out in front for good with 1:20 left in regulation.

The Cajuns will try to get back on the winning side of things on Saturday when they take on Troy (12-12, 4-6 SBC) with tipoff set for 7:15 pm.

By the Numbers:

13: Number of points off turnovers for Georgia Southern. Both teams had the same amount of turnovers with 10, but the Eagles were able to make more of their opportunities created by good defensive plays.

20: Number of points Mike Hughes had for Georgia Southern. He led the team in points and ended up with four boards, two assists, and four steals.

37: The Cajuns field goal shooting percentage. When you look at some of their wins, it’s been all about shooting well. This was a night that showed that they could have overcome that poor shooting if not for a late flurry by Georgia Southern.
