The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns had performed well late in games throughout the Sun Belt Conference tournament, but that had to run out sooner or later.
The Cajuns were marred by poor shooting from the field and being outrebounded by Troy and all that added up to their season ending with a loss to Troy 78-64.
Senior Jaylyn Gordon started out strong, getting the team out to a four point lead, but that wouldn’t last long as the Trojans would take control at around the halfway mark of the first quarter. The Cajuns did manage to make it a one-point deficit after one quarter of play.
The second quarter saw most of the issues of the Cajuns begin to come up. Poor shooting late in the first half gave Troy the opportunity they needed to get out to a double digit lead. The Cajuns did manage to get it down in the final minutes to a six point deficit.
The Trojans held on for the rest of the game despite some late flurries in both the third and fourth quarters.
By the Numbers:
58: Number of total rebounds for the Trojans. It was one of the more dominant statistics for Troy as the Cajuns had 33 rebounds on the evening.
31: The Cajuns field goal percentage. Taking three-point shooting out of it, they shot 33 percent from inside and it’s pretty difficult for any team win with a performance like that.
20: Number of points for Troi Swain.
