It wasn’t an outright dominant performance on Saturday night for the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (5-3), but they were able to come away with an 88-78 win over the Southern Jags (1-7) in their first game back in the Cajundome after a six-game road trip.
How It Happened:
It was all Cajuns from the outset, as they jumped out to a 13-4 lead thanks to some solid shooting from three to start the game. It felt like the Cajuns could have started blowing the Jags out the water, but Eddie Reese’s 10 points helped keep them within reach for much of the first half. However, Southern went cold in the final moments and that helped Louisiana make it an 11-point ballgame.
The second half was a back and forth ballgame that saw the Cajuns make it a double-digit ballgame but was quickly followed by a score by Southern to bring it back down to single digits. The crowd really came unglued when JaKeenan Gant threw down a one-handed jam to go up by 11 points and that was really the big difference and helped the Cajuns get their third straight win.
Big Number: 20
Malik Marquetti led the team on Saturday night with 20 points, with half of those points coming from the charity stripe. The senior went 10-of-12 on the evening on free throws.
Player of the Game: JaKeenan Gant
It’s a shame that Gant wasn’t able to finish off his Saturday night with a triple-double, but came up two rebounds short. It was still impressive to see the senior rack up 10 blocks on the evening.
Next Up: Loyola Wolfpack December 5th; Tipoff at 7 pm
