Thomas Morstead has been honored.

The New Orleans Saints punter was named the NFC’s Special Teams Player of the Week on Wednesday. In Sunday’s 33-27 win over the Seattle Seahawks at CenturyLink Field, Morstead had six punts for a total of 324 yards, averaged 52 yards per punt, had 4 punts downed inside the 20-yard-line, 2 punts inside the 5-yard line and a long punt of 64 yards.

The 64-yard line punt is the fourth-longest punt of his career.

“We felt like it was going to be a field position game throughout,” Saints head coach Sean Payton said Sunday. “I thought we were able to take advantage.”

The. 6-foot-4, 235-pound Morstead, who is one of two players remaining from the Saints’ 2009 Super Bowl team, is currently in his 11th season out of Southern Methodist University. Morstead was drafted in the fifth round by the Saints in 2009.

In his career, all with the Saints, Morstead has recorded 583 punts for 27,402 yards and is averaging 47.0 yards per punt. Morstead also was named to the Pro Bowl in 2012.

In three games this season for the Saints, Morstead is averaging 50.5 yards on 13 punts with 9 downed inside the 20. This week’s honor is his third honor of his career and first accolade since 2009.

New Orleans (2-1) will host Dallas (3-0) on Sunday. Kickoff is set for 7:20 p.m.
