The University of Louisiana women’s basketball team now has a 4-1 overall record after a 65-60 road win against the University of New Orleans.
How It Happened:
UL jumped out to an early 18-8 lead against the UNO Privateers. The Ragin’ Cajuns used an 8-0 run in the first quarter to earn an 11-3 advantage.
The Privateers got down by as much as 15 points in the second quarter, trailing 23-8. They cut the deficit down to five points with 35 seconds left in the first half before UL guard Andrea Cournoyer went 1-of-2 from the free throw line.
The Ragin’ Cajuns took a 29-23 lead into the second half.
UL was able to shoot better in the second half, shooting 41 percent from the field as opposed to their 37 percent shooting in the first half.
The Ragin’ Cajuns outscored the Privateers 16-14 in the third quarter. And despite being outscored 23-20 in the final quarter, UL sealed the game from the free throw line after hitting five free throws in the last minute.
Big Number: 42
UL’s Ty Doucet and Brandi Williams combined for 42 of the team’s 65 points. Doucet and Williams shot a combined 15-of-25 from the field.
Player of the Game: Ty Doucet
Doucet tied for a game-high 21 points. The Ragin’ Cajuns forward also added 12 rebounds and contributed on the defensive end with three blocks.
