Billy Napier is optimistic about what 2020 holds for the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns

While that may sound like a no-brainer after a 2019 campaign that saw them win 11 games including a convincing victory over Miami of Ohio in the Lending Tree Bowl, it’s more about the player-coach relationship for him.

“We’re going to benefit from having been with these players for the most part for two years”, Napier said during an interview with Jim Rome on Tuesday. “I think we’ve established really good trust and really good communication. We’ve operated virtually and have a specific schedule to how we want them to work out and the material we would have covered during spring practice.”

With all the extra time that players have not in practice or in an actual classroom, Napier also mentioned that they’ve done some special things for their players including having former players like Kurt Warner and Trent Dilfer talk to the quarterback room.

Another big benefit for the Ragin Cajuns is that they got three practices in before COVID-19 canceled the remainder of spring practice and Napier believes that this team will be itching to get back on the field and practice whenever that is.

Listen to the interview above to hear about the influence that both Nick Saban and his father had on him as a coach and how long he thinks they’ll need to return to play in the fall.
