Astros Fall to Rangers, Clinches Postseason Spot After Angels Loss

While the end result of what happened at Globe Life Park on Friday night wasn’t what they wanted with an extra-innings loss to their in-state rival Texas Rangers, they were still able to punch their postseason ticket after the Los Angeles Angels lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers 9-5.

How It Happened:

The Rangers struck first with a solo shot out to center field from Sam Huff in the bottom of the second. However, George Springer tied things up in the fifth with a line-drive RBI triple to left field that was negated by another solo shot by Huff in the bottom frame.

Alex Bregman tied it up though in the sixth with a solo shot to left center field, his second home run in as many games. Yuli Gurriel gave the Astros a 3-2 lead in the eighth with a well-hit ground ball, scoring Jose Altuve. However, the Rangers got it to extra innings in the ninth when Ronald Guzman hit a home run on a 2-2 count with two outs.

Bregman gave Houston the lead right back in the 10th with a sac fly that scored Altuve, making it a 4-3 ballgame. The Rangers then put together a pair of runs courtesy of a sac fly by Nick Solak, which was followed by a good hit from Joey Gallo that allowed Isiah Kiner-Falefa to beat the throw to home plate in time to take the second game of the series 4-3.

Next Up: Saturday vs Rangers; First Pitch at 6:05 pm
