University of Louisiana quarterback Levi Lewis announced he will return for a fifth season.

“I’m coming back,” Lewis said on a teleconference Wednesday. “We’ve got guys that’s talking about coming back. They’re really thinking about it.”

Lewis began his career with the Ragin’ Cajuns as a redshirt freshman, but former head coach Mark Hudspeth used his first year of eligibility in 2017 during his redshirt year.

He was the backup the following season in 2018 to Andre Nunez. Lewis became the starting quarterback for the Ragin’ Cajuns in 2019. The team went 11-3 and earned a bowl win after defeating Miami (Ohio) in the LendingTree Bowl last season.

Lewis is behind only Jake Delhomme and Terrance Broadway for most passing touchdowns in Ragin’ Cajuns history. He’s thrown for 45 passing touchdowns. Broadway threw 49 touchdowns, while Delhomme threw 64 passing touchdowns.

In 2019, Lewis became the first quarterback in program history to throw for over 3,000 yards in a single season. He is currently fourth all-time in passing yards with 5,640.
