The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns fought till the final day of the regular season and were able to come away with a 2-1 victory thanks to a solid outing from Carter Robinson, winning the Sun Belt West Division in the process following UT Arlington falling in the series finale to Georgia Southern.

How It Happened:

The Trojans wasted little time getting on the board with Drew Frederic sending the first pitch he saw on a ride out to right field to take an early lead in the top of the first. However, that was all they could muster as Carter Robinson sat down the next three batters to keep it to a 1-0 deficit.

The Ragin’ Cajuns responded in the bottom of the third with a leadoff double from Bobby Lada, which was followed up by a sac bunt from CJ Willis to advance Lada to third. The Cajuns evened things up with Drake Osborn hitting a grounder to Frederic to push the Cajuns shortstop across.

The contest remained knotted up at one until the bottom of the seventh when Connor Kimple scored off of a fielder’s choice by Carson Roccaforte, giving Louisiana a 2-1 lead.

Troy attempted to rally in the top of the ninth after a leadoff single from Caleb Bartolero, but Jacob Schultz was able to keep his composure and help the Cajuns secure the Sun Belt West Division, striking out the final two batters.

Big Number: 13

The Cajuns pitching staff took care of business in the series finale with a baker’s dozen of strikeouts on the afternoon. It was the definition of a pitcher’s duel and it was a team effort at the end of the day that got them past the Trojans

Player of the Game: Carter Robinson

Outside of the leadoff homer, the Cajuns starter caught fire in the regular-season finale, throwing five and two-thirds with eight strikeouts.
