RAGIN CAJUNS GAMER: Eagles End Cajuns Season With 3-2 Extra Innings Win

Posted by clintdomingue on May 29, 2021 in Blogs, Latest News, Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns

The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns season came to a disappointing end on Saturday afternoon with an extra-innings 3-2 loss to Georgia Southern in the Sun Belt Conference after a wild sequence in the bottom of the ninth.

How It Happened:

The Eagles got on the board first thanks to an RBI single that was sent out to left-center field by Parker Biederer in the top of the second. The Cajuns responded in the bottom frame with Bobby Lada scoring off of a pickoff attempt by Matt Anderson.

Biederer put Georgia Southern out in front once again in the top of the fifth with a solo shot down the right-field line.

The Cajuns rallied in the bottom of the ninth starting with Tyler Robertson being hit by a pitch. Brennan Breaux followed that up with a single that went through the right side and put runners on the corners.

Ben Fitzgerald, the hero in Thursday night’s contest, then came to the plate and reached on a fielder’s choice. At first glance, it looked like Robertson was thrown out at home, but the Eagles catcher dropped the ball and after a lengthy review period Robertson was ruled safe and the game was tied. However, the next three batters were sat down in order to send the contest to extra innings.

Georgia Southern got some more help from Biederer in the top of the 11th with a bunt single that allowed Jason Swan to reach home safely.

The Cajuns tried to get a two-out rally going after Bobby Lada hit a double down the left-field line. The Cajuns once again had runners on the corner after Carson Roccaforte reached on a throwing error by the Eagles, but the hopes of another rally were dashed when Jonathan Brandon grounded out to shortstop to end the vermilion and white’s season.

Big Number: 0

The Cajuns had ample opportunities to get runs across, but could never quite cash in on them, going 0-for-11 with runners in scoring position. That was made worse by the fact that they only had one hit with runners on.

Player of the Game: Parker Biederer

Biederer was the best player on the diamond Saturday with three RBIs, each coming in different ways.
