The Houston Astros have finally filled their vacant general manager position.

Dana Brown, a longtime scouting executive for the Atlanta Braves, was hired as the Astros GM earlier today after being in Atlanta for the last four seasons.

While in Atlanta, Brown oversaw several draft classes that brought success to the organization, including the selection of Michael Harris, Spencer Strider, and Vaughn Grissom. In 2022, Harris was named NL Rookie of the Year whereas Strider finished 2nd. The Braves have had five straight division titles and a World Series championship in recent years, due to the success of their farm system.

“We are excited to have Dana join our organization,” Crane stated. “He brings championship caliber experience to our team and is the right fit for us to continue to deliver a winning franchise on and off the field. We welcome Dana and his family to the Astros family.”

Prior to his time in Atlanta, Brown spent nine years in Toronto where he was a special assistant to the GM. In that time, the Blue Jays won the AL East in 2015, their first postseason appearance since 1993.

Brown was also a scouting director for the Washington Nationals/Montreal Expos franchise. He helped the team draft over 40 players that played in the Major Leagues, including seven All-Stars, like Ian Desmond, Stephen Strasburg, and Ryan Zimmerman.
