Louisiana returned to their 21st Sun Belt Tournament Championship Game in 23 seasons when they battled with #2 Marshall. Lauren Allred hit a solo home run in the fourth, Sam Landry dominated in the circle, and Louisiana captured their 18th tournament title when they defeated the Thundering Herd 1-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
It was a dominating pitching affair early with the first hit of the game not coming until the bottom of the fourth when Lauren Allred launched a fastball to the right field metal sign to give the Cajuns an advantage in a very tight game.
Louisiana had a chance at a second run in the fifth, but a great defensive play by Marshall recorded an inning-ending double play. Both pitchers were very impressive during this game, as they were only 5 total hits through six innings.
In the sixth, Louisiana got back-to-back singles from Jourdyn Campbell and Lauren Allred before a Karly Heath walk loaded the bases for Alexa Langliers, but a big strikeout from Sydney Nester ended the inning with the bases loaded.
Louisiana closed the game out in the seventh with Sam Landry striking out the side to win their fifth straight Sun Belt Tournament title.
BIG NUMBER: 11
Sam Landry was exceptional in the circle, giving up just one hit and striking out 11 in the game to lead Louisiana to the title.
PLAYER OF THE GAME: Sam Landry/Lauren Allred
Allred hit the solo home run in the fourth for the game’s only run while Landry was dominant in the circle, giving up just one hit and striking out eleven.
