Louisiana was able to eliminate Texas State by beating them a second time. With the win last night, the Ragin’ Cajuns baseball team would look to get their revenge against Coastal Carolina. The Cajuns rallied in the fifth and eighth innings to take the lead and forced a third game as Louisiana defeated Costal 7-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Coastal put up the first run of the game as Graham Brown hit a solo home run over the left field wall at the bottom of the first.

The Chanticleers came right back to extend their lead at the bottom of the second. It started with Zack Beach and Jake Books hitting a single and Blake Bathol drove in both of them with an RBI double down the right-field line to make it 3-0.

At the top of the fourth, Carson Roccaforte was walked and Julian Brock hit a single into right field. Roccaforte went past second base and got caught trying to steal third to end the inning.

Louisiana had a big response in the fifth as John Taylor reached first and CJ Willis hit a single down the right side. Will Veillon’s up-the-middle single brought home Taylor for the first run for the Cajuns then Max Marusak’s double allowed Willis and Veillon to score and tie the game. Kyle DeBarge’s double gave Louisiana the 4-3 lead as Marusak made it home.

Brooks doubled in the sixth and threatened to score as he advanced to third base on a bunt by Ty Dooley but Payton Eeles’ groundout ended the inning.

The Cajuns extended their lead in the eighth as Hood hit a double into center field with outs. Taylor drove him in with a double of his own and Willis made it 7-3 with a two-run homer.

Blake Marshall and the Cajuns’ defense finished off the Chanticleers early Saturday afternoon as Louisiana beat them 7-3.

BIG NUMBER: 21

There were 21 total hits in the early afternoon game as the Cajuns had 10 and Coastal Carolina had the other 11.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: CJ Willis

Willis came up big for the Cajuns as he went 2/4 from the plate with two RBIs, and two runs scored including a two-run home run in the eighth inning as the Cajuns beat the Chanticleers 7-3.

UP NEXT: The Cajuns will be back again tonight around 7:30 in an elimination game against Coastal.
