With the softball season winding down with the Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City this week, D1Softball has unveiled their All-American teams, with a pair of Louisiana players on the Freshman list.

Louisiana’s Mihyia Davis and LSU’s Sydney Berzon both represented the Bayou State on D1’s list, honoring the 18 best freshman softball players in the country at the Division I level.

Davis had a great freshman campaign in Lafayette, leading the country in stolen bases (52) while leading the team in batting average (.380), at-bats (184), and 22 multi-hit games. The Lovelady, Texas native and Sun Belt Freshman of the Year also had four doubles, two triples, two home runs, and 18 RBI.

She was the only the third player in program history to steal 50 bases with Keeli Milligan and Dorsey Steamer. Milligan currently holds the program record with 60 stolen bases.

The most significant impact from Mihyia Davis came from the center field position, where she had a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage with 10 outfield assist. One of the most memorable moments was the diving catch earlier in the season against LSU in the LSU Crossover event where she ran into the wall and missed the next 10 games.

Sydney Berzon was a highly-touted pitching prospect out of Buffalo, New York who came down south and made a major impact early on for Beth Torina and the Tigers. She appeared in 30 games, starting in 17. Her record on the season was 14-8 with 11 complete games.

The multi-time SEC Freshman of the Week pitched 143 innings for LSU, where she gave up 112 hits, 54 runs, 40 walks, and 127 strikeouts.

Louisiana’s season ended with a Super Regional appearance against the Washington Huskies, where the Cajuns lost the first two games 8-0 in five innings and 2-0. This was Louisiana’s first Super Regional appearance since 2016 and their first under Gerry Glasco.

LSU’s season ended in Baton Rouge after a two-game Championship Sunday battle with Louisiana. The Cajuns took the first game 7-4 before winning the second in come-from-behind fashion 9-8 after starting with a 6-0 lead.
