Everyone had Acadiana versus Carencro circled on their calendars just like the people of Acadiana always do every year. This year’s edition lived up to the billing as the Wreckin’ Rams didn’t pick up a first down until the third quarter but still came out on top 27-26.
In the win, starting quarterback Caden DiBetta completed just three out of 11 pass attempts, but all three went for touchdowns. DiBetta connected with Jaydeon Bessard for the 71-yard score in the second quarter and then found Ezekiel Hypolite from 52 yards out in the third. Then, Collin DiBetta caught the game-winning 39-yard touchdown to elevate Acadiana to a 7-2 record.
During the season, DiBetta has completed 50 out of 81 pass attempts, good for a completion percentage of 61 percent for 1,025 yards and 14 touchdowns compared to three interceptions. He’s also carried the ball 34 times for 217 yards and reached paydirt thrice.

Question: How did it feel to throw three touchdown passes on Carencro’s defense and be a big part of that win last Friday?
Answer: It felt pretty good. I put the ball in our playmaker’s hands and they made the plays. It was easy for me because all I have to do is get them the ball and they’re going to make the plays we need to score.
Q: Walk us through that game-winning touchdown to your brother Collin. What was the play call and what did you see in that play?
A: I had two reads before going to him. A post and drag, then Collin was running a 10-yard dig and he was the last read on that play. The pocked was closing in, I stepped up, and I saw him last second and I got the ball to him.
Q: This team has been explosive on offense, but talk about the job that the defense has done. They have been able to hold down teams like Southside, Carencro, and Sam Houston to under 30 points each.
A: Our defense is amazing. We have the best coaches and defensive players. We’ve got playmakers all over the field, especially some young guys. Our defense is good all of the time here at Acadiana.
Q: What’s the feeling like with this team as you head into the final week of the regular season and get ready for the playoffs?
A: We’re very motivated. Last year, we beat Carencro and played like trash against Barbe so we don’t want that to happen again. We want to go out there and dominate Barbe and let everyone know we’re ready for the playoffs.
Q: What will it take for this team to cap off the regular season with a win over the Barbe Buccaneers, who have been on fire as of late?
A: We will have gotten some much-needed rest and watched some film. We’ll get prepared and locked in and do what we do, beat them by a lot of points.
To finish the regular season, the Acadiana Wreckin’ Rams will take on the Barbe Buccaneers on Friday, November 2nd at 7:00 p.m. The action and the Rams’ broadcast team can be heard on MeTV 97.7 FM & 1330 AM while the Buccaneers’ point of view can be heard on ESPN 104.1 Lake Charles.
