Looking to end a three-game losing streak, the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns Women’s Basketball team welcomed LSU-Shreveport to the Cajundome Tuesday morning for the 10th annual Education Game. Louisiana was able to shoot 50% from downtown to lead them to a win before Christmas.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
At the first media timeout, the Pilots of LSU-Shreveport held an 8-7 lead, going on an 8-3 run to close out that stretch. Over the final five minutes, Louisiana outscored the Pilots 10-3 to hold a 17-11 lead after one-quarter of play. Destiny Rce led all scorers with nine points.
In the second quarter, the Cajuns jumped out to a sizable lead, leading 29-14 with less than three minutes to go. By the end of the first half, Louisiana had a 32-18 lead over LSU-S. Destiny Rice continued to lead the way with nine as the Cajuns shot 56% from three in the first half.
Both teams battled hard to open the second half with both the Pilots and Cajuns scoring eight points aside for a 40-26 score with 4:45 left in the third quarter. So far in the game, the Cajuns have scored 13 points off of 15 LSUS turnovers and have 8 second-chance points.
After three quarters, the Cajuns had jumped out to a 20-point lead at 54-34. Destiny Rice had 11 to lead Louisiana and Brandi Williams, Lanay Wheaton, and Nubia Benedith were close behind with 9 each.
At the final media timeout, Louisiana led LSU-S 60-43. The Pilots outscored the Cajuns 9-6 in the first six minutes of the quarter, but the Vermilion and White would hang on to a 18-point victory with a 64-46 final score.

Louisiana shot 50% from three-point range, a critical statistic that led to the win over LSU-S. Lanay Wheaton had three from beyond the arc and Destiny Rice contributed a pair as well.
PLAYER OF THE GAME: Destiny Rice
The second-year Cajun had a nice outing on Tuesday morning, scoring 11 points on 4-7 shooting while adding seven rebounds and two assists in her 15 minutes of work.
UP NEXT: The Cajuns will break for Christmas before welcoming App State to the Cajundome on December 30 to open Sun Belt play. Tip-off in that contest is set for 1:00 p.m.
