After a strong 21-run performance in their season opener, the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns were tested early on against the Golden Bears of Cal. However, eight runs in the final three innings while holding Cal scoreless was the difference in an 8-0 mercy rule.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The first three innings for this game were very defensive, with the Cajuns getting a few base hits but not cashing in. Meanwhile, Sam Landry held the Golden Bears hitless through four innings.
In the bottom of the fourth, Brooke Ellestad ripped a double to right center to score Alexa Langeliers and give Louisiana the 1-0 lead.
In the fifth, Mihyia Davis hit a double to right field to put a pair of runners in scoring position with two outs before Sophie Piskos continued being a clutch hitter with a two-run single to give Louisiana the 3-0 lead.
Louisiana added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth with a bases-loaded walk by Dayzja Williams scored Sam Roe and made it a 4-0 contest. Shortly after, Jourdyn Campbell stepped up to the plate and had a strong at-bat before launching the walk-off grand slam into left field to win the game 8-0 in six innings.
The performance defensively was the first no-hitter for Sam Landry and the Cajuns in 2024.
