The New Orleans Saints are going to address their defensive line in free agency.
All signs point towards former number two overall pick Chase Young signing with the Black and Gold to bolster the front four of their defense.
It’ll be a one-year deal worth $13 million and is fully guaranteed. Ian Rapoport broke news via X, and then Adam Schefter dropped the terms of the deal a couple of minutes later.
Young began his career with the Washington Commanders where he spent three and a half seasons. In his 2020 rookie season, the former Ohio State Buckeye recorded 7.5 sacks in 15 games played. Due to injuries, the following two seasons didn’t go as planned as he played in a total of 12 games and had just 1.5 sacks.
Young’s 2023 campaign looked similar to his rookie season when he spent the first seven games with the Commanders and sacked opposing quarterbacks five times before being traded to the San Francisco 49ers for a third-round pick.
In his nine regular season games with the Niners, Young only recorded 2.5 sacks but helped elevate the team to a 12-5 record and have a first-round bye in the playoffs. Once the playoffs rolled around, Young played in all three games and had eight tackles and a Super Bowl sack on Patrick Mahomes.
Young will join a defensive line room of Cam Jordan, Carl Granderson, Payton Turner, Tanoh Kpassagnon, Bryan Bresee, Nathan Shepherd, Khalen Saunders, Isaiah Foskey, and company.
