Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns shortstop was named Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week for his efforts in another 4-0 stretch for his team.
The league announced on Tuesday that Debarge had earned the honors after the Cajuns grew their nation-leading winning streak to 15 games. For the Week, Kyle hit .467 with three home runs and six RBI.
The Cajuns defeated Nicholls 13-3 in a 10-run rule victory during the midweek. After that, they swept the ULM Warhawks in a three-game conference series, moving their Sun Belt record to 11-1.
During the ULM series, Debarge was a key cog in the Cajuns’ offense. He hit two home runs in Saturday’s game, marking the third time this season that he hit multiple round-trippers. In addition to that, Debarge drove in a couple of runs in Sunday’s finale win as well.
For the season, Debarge is hitting .331, with a team-leading 11 home runs and 36 RBIs. He has also started every game of the season at shortstop, pacing Matt Deggs’ team as a leader on and off the diamond.
The Cajuns’ have a five-game week, all at home, ahead of them, hosting Prairie View and Louisiana Tech in the midweek before Marshall comes to town for a three-game Sun Belt Conference series this weekend.
