Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns starting guard AJ Gillie was named to the Outland Trophy Watch List, the Football Writers Association of America announced on Tuesday.
The Outland Trophy recognizes the nation’s top interior offensive lineman. Schools from the 10 FBS conferences are eligible to have players win the award. Gillie was one of 75 players named to the list, with three of them coming from the Sun Belt Conference.
Gillie, a Natchitoches native, enters 2024 as one of the most experienced offensive linemen in the country. He has spent three seasons as a starter on the Louisiana offensive line, including all 13 games last year.
After being named a third team All-Sun Belt selection for his efforts in 2023, Gillie was named a preseason first team All-SBC choice this offseason. He also represented the Cajuns at Sun Belt Football Media Days in New Orleans last week.
The Cajuns open fall camp on Thursday, August 1st with the first workout taking place on Friday, August 2nd.
They open the season on Saturday, August 31st against Grambling at Cajun Field.
