Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns’ running back Dre’lyn Washington was named to the watch list for the Doak Walker Award.
That news was announced by the PwC SMU Athletic Forum, which is in charge of the award. Their Board of Directors will name 10 semifinalists and have the Doak Walker Award National Selection Committee vote on the three finalists.
The award recognizes the nation’s best running back, and is named for three-time All-American and former SMU running back Doak Walker.
Washington is a Texas native that emerged as a top running back for the Cajuns last season. As a redshirt sophomore a season ago, he totaled 515 rushing yards on 92 carries, adding in two touchdowns as well. He also caught four passes for 24 yards with another touchdown.
The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns begin their 2024 campaign on Saturday, August 31st inside Cajun Field. They will play host to the Grambling Tigers in the opener.
