The Houston Astros have traded for Minnesota Twins shortstop Carlos Correa, Jeff Passan of ESPN and Brian McTaggart of MLB.com are reporting.
The deal comes with just two hours left before the trade deadline, and comes after the Astros found out that third baseman Isaac Paredes is out for the season with a torn hamstring.
Correa was drafted first overall by the Astros back in 2012. He helped lead Houston to their first World Series title in 2017 and was with the organization until 2021. That offseason, he signed a deal with the Twins and has been with them ever since.
A deal seemed unlikely earlier today, as the Astros had reportedly been asking the Twins to take care of nearly half of the $100M+ left on Correa’s contract. However, the two sides were able to come to an agreement.
This season, Correa is batting .267 with seven home runs and 31 RBIs.
