The Houston Astros have signed veteran relief pitcher Craig Kimbrel, the club announced on Thursday.
Kimbrel is one of the most decorated closing pitchers in recent baseball history all history, totaling 440 saves in his career.
The move comes as injuries have stacked up in the Astros bullpen, including closer Josh Hader. The club added Kimbrel on a major league deal and he has joined the team in Baltimore.
Kimbrel began his career in Atlanta with the Braves and was an All-Star in each of his first four full seasons in the big leagues. He has made stops with eight different teams over a 16-year big league career. In addition to his save total, he has a career ERA of 2.59.
Most recently, Kimbrel this season threw just one inning for the Braves, when he reunited with his original team.
The Astros continue their series with the Orioles tonight at 6:05 PM. You can listen to the game on ESPN 103.7 Lafayette 104.1 Lake Charles.
