The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns lost to the #4 Texas Longhorns 100-38 on Monday night in the Moody Center in Austin, Texas. The loss moves Louisiana to 0-3 on the season and Texas to 3-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The game began with the Cajuns scoring first and taking another lead at 4-2. While that may not seem significant, it was the first and only time they would lead in this contest. Texas used their patented full-court pressure defense to force turnovers and get baskets in transition. After the first quarter, the Longhorns led 28-9.
Imani Daniel had a productive first half for the Cajuns, quickly getting to double digits with 10 points. However, she found herself in foul trouble and had to sit much of the second quarter with three personals. For Texas, Kyla Oldacre had in impressive first half with 15 points overall. By the half, the Longhorn lead was 49-15.
Quarter number three was more of the same. While the Cajuns did play well in the half-court defensively, the transition game allowed Texas to continue to extend the lead. After three, Texas led 70-24.
The Longhorns paced the fourth quarter and won by a final of 100-38.
BIG NUMBER: 32
Texas forced 32 Louisiana turnovers. Additionally, they scored 37 points off those turnovers. That was the biggest difference as the transition game killed UL.
PLAYER OF THE GAME: Kyla Oldacre
Oldacre came off the bench to score a game-high 19 points for Texas. She also had seven rebounds in the win.
UP NEXT: Louisiana will stay on the road and face Nicholls in Thibodaux Friday night at 6:30 PM.
