The McNeese Cowboys baseball team defeated the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns 10-7 on Tuesday afternoon inside Joe Miller Ballpark in Lake Charles. The win moves McNeese to one game above .500 at 15-14.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
McNeese went with Brady Corcoran on the mound. He worked scoreless first inning. Louisiana countered with JR Tollett. He gave up some traffic and that resulted in an RBI fielder’s choice, giving McNeese an early 1-0 lead.
Louisiana would respond in the second. Lee Amedee came through with the RBI single to tie the game at 1.
In the bottom of the second, McNeese retook the lead. This time, it was courtesy of Bryce Fontenot on a two-run home run. That made it 3-1.
The Cowboys picked up another single run in the fourth, this time on a Matt Stancliff RBI double. That was followed by two more runs in the fifth, as Hayden Stringfellow launched a two-run home run.
That would end the day for JR Tollett, who went four innings.
Stringfellow struck again, hitting a grand slam in the following frame. That made it 10-1 and opened things up.
The Cajuns would get six runs in the seventh, primarily via the walk. McNeese went through a multitude of pitchers who struggled to find the zone. It was 10-7 when the dust settled.
That 10-7 score would hold up. McNeese held on for the three-run win with scoreless frames in the eighth and ninth.
BIG NUMBER: 10
McNeese scored 10 runs off of Louisiana pitching. It continues a stretch where the Louisiana bullpen has been vulnerable, and the Cowboys offense came alive in this one.
PLAYER OF THE GAME: Hayden Stringfellow
Stringfellow went 2-4, hitting two home runs and driving in six. His grand slam was the key to breaking things open and helping McNeese secure the win.
UP NEXT: Louisiana will stay on the road and face James Madison in a SBC series beginning on Thursday. McNeese will head to New Orleans to face UNO in a SLC series also beginning on Thursday.
