The Houston Astros have announced their Hall of Fame class for 2026.
Former catcher and broadcaster Alan Ashby along with former player and manager Phil Garner make up the selections for this year.
Ashby played 11 seasons for the Astros from 1979-89. He is top two in plenty of notable categories among catchers in Astros’ history. After his playing days, Ashby would return to the organization as a broadcaster for 13 seasons. He spent time in the radio and tv booth for Houston, and also had some time broadcasting for the Toronto Blue Jays.
Garner played seven seasons for the Astros from 1981-87. He was a part of two postseason runs and overlapped as a teammate of Ashby for his entirety with Houston. He would also return to the organization, but as a manager. He managed the club from 2004-07, leading them to the NLCS and within one game of the World Series.
Garner was aware of his impending Hall of Fame induction before his recent passing.
The Astros Hall of Fame presented by Houston Methodist was created in 2019. It can be found in Hall of Fame Alley on the main concourse of Daikin Park in left-center field. The Class of 2026 will join 28 members that currently are inducted.
