Houston Astros’ slugger Yordan Alvarez has been named the American League’s Player of the Month for March/April, Major League Baseball announced on Monday.
The honor comes after an incredible start to the season for Alvarez. He batted .356 with 12 home runs, 27 RBIs, nine doubles, and an OPS (On-base plus slugging) of 1.199. He tied for the league lead in homers while leading all of baseball in OPS, slugging, on-base percentage, hits, and total bases.
Alvarez also earned Player of the Week honors for the week of March 30th-April 5th. That was the fourth such honor of his career. The POTM award is the third in his career.
The Astros have struggled to start the season despite Alvarez’s incredible beginning. They sit in 4th in the AL West with a 14-21 record.
The Astros begin a series with the Los Angeles Dodgers tonight at 7:10 PM inside Daikin Park. You can listen to the action beginning with pregame at 6:40 PM on ESPN 103.7 Lafayette 104.1 Lake Charles.
