The LSU Tigers needed a win on Saturday afternoon to give them a better chance of winning the SEC Tournament. Despite a solid performance from Tim Quarterman, the Wildcats (23-8, 13-5 SEC) were too much for the Tigers in a 94-77 loss.
The Wildcats and Tigers went back and forth throughout the opening minutes of the first half, but Kentucky was able to put a distance between themselves and LSU with a 9-0 run with about 11 minutes left in the half. Kentucky continued to dominate in the first half and headed into the locker room with a 41-32 lead.
The Wildcats picked up right where they left off in the second half, scoring at will against LSU. The Tigers did manage to keep the big runs to a minimum in the second half, but the damage was done in the first half and it was too much for LSU to rally from.
Tim Quarterman led the team with 23 points, four boards, three assists, and one block on the afternoon. Antonio Blakeney was behind him with 19 points, four boards, and one block.
Jamal Murray led the Wildcats with 22 points, seven boards, and four assists on the afternoon.
The Tigers will end the regular season with an 18-13 record and went 11-7 in the SEC. The Tigers will head to the SEC Tournament and will find out when they’ll be playing next on Sunday.
