Alissa Dalton had been struggling heading into last weekend’s series against South Alabama. The junior shortstop came alive and earned Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week for her efforts in Mobile.
Dalton batted for .643 and turned in four straight multiple-hit games for the team, including a three-hit effort against McNeese.
“Alissa has been working really hard, and is starting to understand her mental approach,” Louisiana Softball head coach Gerry Glasco said in a statement released by the university. “In her at-bat with the bases loaded in the series finale, she fouled off two or three pitches with two strikes, and because she’s becoming a smarter offensive player was able to make the adjustment for another clutch hit.”
This is Dalton’s first career Sun Belt weekly award and the third straight week that a Ragin’ Cajun has claimed one of the weekly honors. The Cajuns will head up to Statesboro, Georgia for a conference series against the Eagles of Georgia Southern.
