Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns kicker Kenneth Almendares has been named a Lou Groza Award finalist, the Palm Beach County Sports Commission announced on Tuesday.
The award is set to give out its 33rd Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award, and it is down to three players. Almendares, Ryan Fitzgerald from Florida State, and Alex Raynor of Kentucky are the final three.
Almendares is the all-time leader in points scored in Cajuns football history. Additionally, he just broke the record for most field goals all-time by a Sun Belt kicker.
This season, Almendares leads the FBS with 25 field goals made, and has a field goal made percentage of over 92%. His only two misses came on kicks of 53 yards or more, and he leads the Cajuns in points scored as well.
The winner of this year’s Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award will be announced during the ESPN at the Home Depot College Football Awards on Thursday, December 12th.
