A pair of Louisiana Ragin Cajuns were honored today by the Louisiana Sportswriters Association for their efforts in the win over Marshall. Kicker Kenneth Almendares was named LSWA Special Teams Player of the Week and safety Bralen Trahan was named the LSWA Defensive Player of the week.
Almendares, a sophomore from Clute, Texas, accounted for 11 of the Cajuns’ 23 points in West Virginia, going a perfect three-for-three in field goals and a pair of extra points. His longest field goal was from 52 yards out. Almendares was also named the Special Teams Player of the Week for the Sun Belt Conference for his performance.
Trahan had a career night, racking up 12 tackles and adding an interception in the third quarter. Louisiana’s defense held Marshall’s offense to just 276 yards of offense, including only 137 yards in the air.
Louisiana (3-3, 1-2 SBC) will return o action Saturday at Cajun Field in a Louisiana Salutes game against Arkansas State. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
