What a week it was for Jose Altuve.

After hitting .520 in six games, the Houston Astros second baseman was named the American League Player of the Week by the MLB for the week of August 7-13. This is the fourth POTW award for Altuve and his first since 2017.

On a tear.

His .520 average (13-25) was tops in the league with three doubles, a home run, six RBI, a stolen base, a .613 OBP, and a .760 slugging percentage. Last Thursday at Camden Yards, Altuve tied his career high of four hits in a game when he went 4-5 against the Orioles with a home run. He also had three games last week with three or more hits.

This stellar week leaves the longtime second baseman just seven hits shy of 2,000 for his career, in which he would become just the third Astro ever to hit that mark. Altuve is also coming off a 14-game hitting streak that was snapped on Sunday where he hit .456 with three homers, 18 runs scored, nine RBI, and an incredible 1.257 OPS during that stretch.

His batting average since the All-Star Break sits at .406, which currently leads the MLB.

Altuve is the third Houston player to win AL Player of the Week this season, with Framber Valdez winning on July 31-Aug 6, and Chas McCormick won for the week of July 14-16.
