Astros’ Correa Headed to IL with Fractured Rib

Posted by clintdomingue on May 29, 2019 in Blogs, Houston Astros, Latest News

The injuries keep piling up for the Houston Astros. Shortstop Carlos Correa is the latest headed to the 10-Day IL with a fractured rib and could be out for 4-to-6 weeks with the injury according to general manager Jeff Luhnow.

“He reported to the stadium and said he had a lot of discomfort in his rib area,” general manager Jeff Luhnow said Wednesday. “Something happened in the morning at his house prior to coming over.”

Prior to the injury, Correa was having another All-Star season, with a .907 OPS, 11 home runs and 35 RBIs.

“It’s more frustrating for him,” Luhnow said. “Our team is built to withstand a few injuries and should be fine We also have to remember he didn’t start playing until June in his rookie year and won the (American League Rookie of the Year) award.”

Myles Straw has been called up to take Correa’s spot on the roster. While Straw’s primary position is as an outfielder, he has spent some time as a shortstop with the Astros AAA affiliate Round Rock Express, starting 25 games at the position.
