For much of the regular season, it looked like the Houston Astros offense was a step or two behind. However, that switch has been flipped and it was virtually all Astros on the way to a 10-5 victory against the Oakland A’s.

How It Happened

The Oakland A’s got on the board in the bottom of the second with Khris Davis blasting a two-run shot out to right center field to take an early lead. Sean Murphy followed that up in the fourth with a solo shot to center field, making it 3-0.

The momentum changed quickly in the fourth with Alex Bregman blasting one out to center field. Later in the inning, Carlos Correa tied things up with a two-run bomb out to dead center.

The home run party continued in the bottom frame with Matt Olson giving Oakland the lead back with a solo shot to left field. Mark Canha made it a 5-3 ballgame in the bottom of the fifth with a sac fly to Kyle Tucker, scoring Marcus Semien.

That lead didn’t last long with Houston putting together a four-run inning that was highlighted by a two-run single by Jose Altuve. Correa continued to cook in the top of the seventh with another home run to give them an 8-5 lead. The final nail was put in by the former first-round pick with an RBI single in the top of the ninth.

Player of the Game: Carlos Correa

Correa was on another level on Monday afternoon with a three-for-five performance with two home runs and four RBIs. This was a game that the Astros needed to win and he was the key cog on a team that had a combined 16 hits.

Next Up: Game Two vs Oakland; First Pitch at 3:37 pm
