Alex Bregman exploded for a career-high six RBIs, including two home runs and Chas McCormick hits for five RBIs as the Houston Astros rolled over the Chicago White Sox 21-5 in the Southside this afternoon. Houston also tied a franchise record for hits with 25 in the contest.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Trey Mancini got the Astros going early with a homer to right field to take the 1-0 lead, but the Astros were far from over.
In the 2nd, Houston would score three runs thanks to a two-run double by Alex Bregman to right center, scoring Jose Altuve and Yuli Gurriel. Later, Kyle Tucker would score Bregman on a single to extend the Astro lead to 4-0.
The fourth inning was probably the most unkind to the Chicago White Sox.
Houston would erupt for six runs in the frame, starting with an infield single from Chas McCormick to score Pena. Altuve came up next and scored Vasquez on an RBI single to center, followed by an RBI groundout from Gurriel to score McCormick. Next, Yordan Alvarez would hit a shot to deep right to score Altuve and ease into second with a double. Lastly, Alex Bregman would deliver again with a two-run homer to left to make it 10-0 Houston at the halfway point.
Chicago would put a small dent in the lead with a three-run home run from Yoan Moncada to make it 10-3 Houston in the fifth. However, Bregman would slam another two-run shot in the sixth to get two of the runs back and make it 12-3 Astros.
Chicago would get another run across in the bottom of the sixth, when Andrew Vaughn grounded into a bases-loaded double play, but Seby Zavala would come into score and make it 12-4.
In the top of the seventh, Houston would get another one on the board, as Yuli Gurriel hit an RBI single to left to score Christian Vasquez and push the lead to nine runs at the seventh inning stretch.
The White Sox loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh, but Will Smith would keep them at bay, as only one run would score to make it 13-5 after seven innings.
In the eighth, Christian Vasquez hit a two-out RBI single to right to score Kyle Tucker and make it 14-5. Chas McCormick followed that up with a three-run shot to right field to extend the lead to 17-5.
In the ninth, Tucker singled to right field, scoring Bregman and Gurriel to make it 19-5 Astros. Tucker would come around to score on an RBI single by Vasquez to make it 20-5. Chas McCormick would deliver another RBI single to score J.J. Matijevic and make it 21-5.
