The Houston Astros (47-27) returned home from their week in New York to host the fiery New York Yankees (56-20) at Minute Maid Park tonight. A two-run double from Alex Bregman would play difference maker as Houston went on to win 2-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The scoring started for the Astros in the 3rd, where Alex Bregman came up with the bases loaded and scored two on a double to left field to score Diaz and Meyers to make it 2-0 Astros.
In the 6th, Anthony Rizzo came up and cut Houston’s lead in half with a solo homer to right field to make it 2-1 in favor of the Astros.
Houston would be able to contain the hot offense of New York long enough to get the 2-1 win over the Yankees at home.
BIG NUMBER: 101
101 pitches tonight for Astros started Luis Garcia, who pitched 5.1 innings and only gave up three hits and one run. He also tallied six strikeouts.
PLAYER OF THE GAME: Alex Bregman
Bregman may have gone 1-3 on the night, but his one base hit was the two-run double in the third that technically won the game for the Astros.
UP NEXT: Houston (48-27) will stay in the friendly confines of Minute Maid Park for a three-game series with the Los Angeles Angels. First pitch is set for Friday at 7:10 p.m. and you can listen right here on The Game.
