After a sluggish finish to the truncated 2020 regular season, the Houston Astros started the postseason strong with a sweep of the Minnesota Twins after a 3-1 win on Wednesday.
How It Happened:
The first three innings of Wednesday’s contest was an offensive struggle for both side with neither team getting on the board. Kyle Tucker broke the stalemate in the fourth with an RBI single to left field to score Michael Brantley.
The Twins responded with a well hit line drive by Nelson Cruz to score Marwin Gonzalez. However, they almost had two runs but the throw to home by Kyle Tucker was in time after Minnesota challenged the tag.
Carlos Correa broke the tie up in a big way in the top of the seventh with an opposite field home run. Tucker added a little insurance as Houston punched their ticket to the ALDS with an RBI single out to right field.
Big Number: 8
The Twins offense was virtually non-existent on Wednesday with eight strikeouts on the afternoon, with two of those coming in the bottom of the ninth. It was a good sign for a pitching staff that had its struggles late in ballgames during the regular season
Players of the Game: Carlos Correa/Kyle Tucker
Both players not only accounted for all three runs, but were part of a huge play in the fifth with Correa being the cutoff man on the Nelson Cruz double that only scored one run thanks to the arm of the former number one pick.
