After dropping the first game to the Colorado Rockies 4-3 last night, the Houston Astros bounced back in a big way Wednesday afternoon. Houston took down the Rockies 4-1 behind a two-run homer from their center fielder Chas McCormick and a solid outing from Brandon Bielak on the mound to split the series in Denver.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Houston started the scoring in the third inning with a double from Jake Meyers before Martin Maldanado moved him over on a sacrifice fly. The next batter was Mauricio Dubon, who got his 26th RBI with a single to score Meyers and put the Astros on the board early.
There were multiple hits by the Rockies that were well-struck, but right at an Astros defender and the Rockies were held to just one base hit into the sixth inning.
Kyle Tucker got the sixth inning started off with a double on the first pitch of the frame and it nearly got out of the ballpark. Jose Abreu then got the second RBI single of the ballgame to score Tucker and give Houston the 2-0 lead.
Chas McCormick launched a two-run shot to left field later in the inning for his fourth homer in the month of July, the 12th of the year to give the Astros a 4-0 lead.
In the bottom of the ninth, CJ Cron finally broke through with a solo shot to make it 4-1, but that would be all the Rockies get as the Astros picked up a three-run victory.
